A Hitch for Canada at WEG

Karen Robinson Website

Bad luck has sat heavily on Canada’s shoulder; Jacqueline Brooks and Cindy Ishoy did not present their horses at the jog. Canada now has only two individuals competing: Ashley Holzer, who has chosen Gambol over Imperioso, and Evi Strasser on Quantum Tyme. Both horses were very polite at the jog, which couldn’t be said of all those presented. The Canadian ladies were also smartly turned out in blazers and slacks. The more casually inclined Dutch, Swedes and lone Fin Kyra Kirkland dressed down for the occasion in jeans. The Dutch horses uniformly displayed that they are on fire and ready to tear into German flesh. With Isabell Werth having to replace her injured star Warum Nicht with the less reliable Satchmo, there may just be a chink in the Teutonic armour big enough to let another team, most likely Royal Orange or Red White and Blue, to sneak past.

With nineteen teams, 90 horses and 33 countries competing, the Grand Prix over the next two days is sure to be truly World class. And now to the Warsteiner tent for one of tens of thousands of beers to be served at these sixth World Equestrian Games.
