IOC Votes to Keep Equestrian in Olympic Programme

The 117th IOC Session reviewed the Olympic Programme for 2012 today. A vote was carried out sport by sport according to the order that the sports appear in rule 46 of the Olympic Charter, with members voting to decide which sport should be included in the Olympic Programme for 2012.

IOC members chose to include 26 sports on the programme for London 2012, which includes the equestrian sports of Dressage, Eventing and Showjumping.  This comes as very good news for the equestrian community as there were worries that equestrian may be dropped from the Olympic programme, particulary with the recent problems with Bejing.

Baseball and Softball were not selected for 2012.

The IOC Executive Board will convene later today and decide whether any of the five candidate sports (Roller Sports, World Squash, Golf, Karate or Rugby) should be put forward to the Session, who will then vote on whether the sport(s) could be added to the list of Olympic sports and then potentially be included on the programme of the 2012 Games.
