Canadian Leslie Reid of Langley, BC still remains at the top of the score board heading into the final leg of the individual dressage competition at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Reid received a score of 72.15% in the Prix St. Georges and a 73.70% the Intermediaire I, which gives her a two-day total of 145.850. Her closest competitor, Yvonne Losos de Muñiz of the Dominican Republic, has a combined total of 141.20, and in third is Bernadette Pujals of Mexico with a score of 140.600.

“Mark was very good to ride and we performed a nice consistent test,” remarked Reid. “I would like to thank his owners for the opportunity to ride him and also to my teammates who have been so supportive. I am really looking forward to Sunday’s Freestyle.”

“It is an outstanding achievement for Canada to have all of our team members sitting in the top 12 in the standings,” remarked Dressage Chef d’Equipe, Victoria Winter.

Evi Strasser of Ste. Adele, QC received an Intermediaire I score of 66.10% for a two-day total of 132.600 which puts her in seventh place. After an Intermediaire I score of 64.50%, Ashley Holzer, originally of Toronto, ON, is in eighth spot with a combined total of 132.300. Jacqueline Brooks of Mount Albert, ON has a score of 131.350 following her 66.35% Intermediaire I score, and she presently is standing in 11th spot.

One remaining test, the Intermediaire Freestyle on Aug 10th, will determine individual medals.

Since International Equestrian Federation (FEI) rules allow only three riders from each nation to move on to Sunday’s Intermediaire Freestyle, Reid, Strasser, and Holzer will be Canada’s representatives. Brooks will be unable to move forward to the Final, but she earns huge congratulations for her top 12 finish.

Canada has won four individual gold medals and three team gold medals during the history of Pan American Games in dressage. The Canadian Dressage Team, with its mix of Olympic veterans and promising recruits, has high hopes for solid tests and great individual results.
