USA Equestrian And The United States Dressage Federation Reach Agreement Regarding Horse Identification Requirements

USA Equestrian and The United States Dressage Federation have reached an
agreement that will allow a seamless transition for individuals who have
horses that are recorded with USDF and are competing in USA Equestrian
recognized competition to comply with the requirement of USA Equestrian
Article 811.

This new rule is effective on December 1, 2002 and states that
all horses competing in USA Equestrian recognized competitions must be
properly identified with an identification number. Through this joint
agreement USDF will be providing the members' USDF Horse Identification
Number or Lifetime Horse Registration Number as well as additional
information on the horse and owner to USA Equestrian so that it can be
directly entered into the system making compliance for the member paperless
and instantaneous. Once the horse is in the USA Equestrian system the owner
will receive a letter to let them know that their horse has been entered and
that they should continue to use the number issued by USDF for competing in
any USDF recognized competition.


The intent of this rule is to provide a system of tracking a horse's
performance throughout its competing lifetime.


USDF Executive Director Stephan Hienzsch made the following statement
regarding this joint agreement. "USDF is pleased with the cooperative
effort between USDF and USA Equestrian in making compliance as seamless as
possible for USDF members who have applied for and received a Horse
Identification Number or Lifetime Registration Number with USDF". A minimum
requirement of a USDF Horse Identification Number for all horses entered in
USDF recognized shows, became mandatory October 1, 2002.
