Plans for New World Class Equestrian Facility in Canada

Media publication The Ottawa Citizen is reporting that the former Nepean National Equestrian Park, just outside Ottawa (Ontario), might have a $30 million makeover to drastically upgrade the facility.

The bid from Wesley Clover Foundation, founded by technology tycoon Sir Terry Matthews, was chosen by the National Capital Commission as the winning proposal out of 4 received.

The proposal includes a 25-year lease with the option to extend further, and substantial monies to upgrade the facitility/property including new stables, competition rings, upgraded trails and therapeutic riding programs.

Apparently the details are still being worked through, but Wesley Clover Foundation is looking as early as 2014 for the big launch.

This is terrific news for "The Park", which has been operated by the city of Nepean since the 1980's and has provided many a horsey person with their first riding lesson, dressage show, horse trials etc. over the years since.

And even better that there's a strong equestrian connection with the Wesley Clover Foundation in Sir Matthews and his daughter Karen Sparks (Executive Director of the Foundation) who is an accomplished Grand Prix showjumping rider.
