Opening Ceremonies in Jerez

The 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez opened Tuesday evening, 10.September , with a colourful equestrian extravaganza which captured the imagination of the capacity crowd of 22,000 spectators in the Chapin Stadium.

The Race to Las Vegas Heats Up for U.S. Show Jumping Riders

The hotly contested race to ride at the Budweiser World Cup 2003 in Las Vegas is heating up for U.S. Show Jumping riders. In the East Coast standings, Norman Dello Joio of Wellington, FL leads the way, and on the West Coast, Misti Cassar of Hidden Valley, CA, and Richard Spooner of Glendale, CA, are tied for the top spot.


FEI Endurance Committee

The FEI Endurance Committee held a special meeting on 29 October in London (GBR) primarily to discuss the problems that arose during and following the World Equestrian Games Endurance Event. They were joined at the meeting by Prof. Leo Jeffcott Chairman of the FEI Veterinary Committee and the FEI Secretary General Dr Bo Helander.


FEI Eventing Committe Meeting

The Eventing Committee met in Angers (FRA) after a very successful Eventing World Championship of 6 and 7 year old Young Horses in Lion d’Angers. 5 Stud books participated in the team Championship and 16 studbooks were represented in the competition with riders from 21 NFs.


Fair Hill International Completes Record-Breaking Weekend

A record crowd of over 18,000 spectators turned out at the 2002 Fair Hill International in Fair Hill, MD, to enjoy the excitement of world-class equestrian competition that featured the United States Equestrian Team (USET) Eventing Three-Star Fall Championship, the USA National Single Horse Driving Championship and the final legs of both the FEI North American Driving Challenge and the Triple Crown of Combined Driving, presented by Driving Essentials/Glinkowski Carriages.


Merriam Wins USA National Combined Driving Singles Championship

Driving and Eventing Champions met in Elkton, MD, to compete at the Fair
Hill International CAI-B and CCI***, October 24-27. The CAI-B included six driving divisions, with 11 U.S. drivers competing in the Single Horse division for the USA National Combined Driving Singles Championship. The Champion single horse driver was Fred Merriam of Newfane, Vermont, driving Gaitwood Lightwing (Morgan: TOFR Black Wing x Gaitwood Leflame) owned by Nick Mercede also of Newfane.

Record crowds and record sponsorship were achieved at the Washington International Horse Show this year, according to Dr. Sheila C. Johnson, President of the Show.

Lisa Singer Wins Triple Crown of Driving

Lisa Singer of Chadds Ford, PA, won the 2002 Triple Crown of Driving, presented by Driving Essentials/Glinkowski Carriages, marking the third time she has won the Triple Crown since the series’s inauguration in 1996. Singer also claimed the Triple Crown title in 1996 and 1997.
